SRI in the Rockies

It is beautiful here in British Columbia, yet another spectacular venue for SRI in the Rockies.

Every year the national convention for socially responsible investing convenes, SRI in the Rockies (http://sriintherockies.com/ ). This year, we are at Whistler in BC. About 700 people will participate in sessions for the next couple days. We are busy trying to improve SRI and understand how SRI can help to improve the world.

It is clear that SRI issues such as (lack of) corporate governance are central to the causes of the current economic crisis. Most CEOs are saying they didn't know or understand the risk position they had lead their companies into. OK, but that's their job and they failed.

Corporate boards and executive management do not have the luxury of saying they didn't know. Reports are plentiful about middle management and staff, not to mention Nobel laureates, who knew they were involved in risky practices.

There's a great coverage on This American Life
