Overview of SRIplanner.com
SRIplanner.com is passionate about two areas of personal finance and investing:
- Socially Responsible Investing (SRI) is a way you can invest with market level returns AND help improve the world.
- Financial Planning is the most comprehensive method for managing your money.
We have developed this site with you in mind. We want you to understand the the basics of SRI. These basics are divided into 3 areas ESG:
- Environment
- Society (social justice)
- Governance (fair management)
Also, you'll need to know strategies and methods that allow you to effect change in these areas.
Perhaps the most important thing about SRI is that you can invest your money in things you care about. Your investments can reflect your values beyond simply making money. If you don't like cigarettes or think abusive employment practices are unacceptable, you can find companies and mutual funds that avoid tobacco products or that require transparency.
But how? How do you do this? We have offered some basic information about SRI, but there is more you can learn. Thing is, maybe you don't understand how you will save the money to invest. Maybe you have children and don't realize that saving for your children's education is different than saving for retirement, meaning there are different ways to invest to achieve either or both.
We have covered the basics of Financial Planning so you can understand the best ways to manage your money. This is a rather complicated process if you're assets are more than $100,000 and you might need help. If you are like most folks, you have assets less than $10,000 and can invest with little or no help, although SRIplanner.com suggests you always talk to a financial advisor before making investment decisions. So it really depends on your values.
If you're like most people you would rather jump to the basics to do before getting started.
Also, don't miss the discussions and online community here. There are other users just like you who are sharing information and experiences that may help you. Likewise, there are a number of SRI professionals who are involved in the community, seek them out. They want to help. There are web pages for financial planners and advisors and we link to outside resources which have contact information of people who can help.
We want to help you plan your future world.
